Digital transformation is the integration of digital technology into all areas of a business, fundamentally changing the way it operates and delivers value to customers. The People/Processes/Technology triangle determines the agility of a company in overcoming the challenges of its transformation.
People work; processes make work more efficient; and technology helps people perform their tasks as well as automate processes. So companies need to find the right balance between these three critical components.
Increased efficiency in companies results in increased productivity and is determined by optimizing the role of people in the process, their responsibilities, their performance, the quality of their deliveries and consistency over time.
But companies that want to succeed in the “new normal” have to be adapted to Accessibility and Mobility. Hybrid and remote working models are now part of the global culture, the physical location of companies is no longer a determining factor for their success.
Technology will play a major role in facilitating access to data and information in the new full mobility regime.
Industry 4.0: a new industrial revolution?
Industry 4.0 refers to the fourth industrial revolution. In broad terms, Industry 4.0 describes the growing trend towards automation and data exchange in technology and processes within manufacturing industry, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), Smart manufacturing, Smart factories, Cloud computing, Cognitive computing and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
All this technology allows companies to transform and prepare them for the new reality of virtual work, which requires visibility of the entire process. But technology alone does not transform companies or solve problems. Companies need to articulate their goals, with well-defined processes, and train people to leverage technology to its full potential.
Technology platforms must reflect and accompany the processes implemented by the organization. Thus, the focus on workflow-driven processes is indispensable to the digital transformation of companies. Digital tools, more than mere data repositories, start to act actively, in the sense of guiding people in what needs to be done.
The digital leader needs to master the current trends, be involved with technology and surround himself with people who are technologically advanced or have a higher than average level of technological reception. Interaction with other members of the organisation involves knowing the activity of each business area in the company and understanding where, in these areas, it is possible to see their activity and the efficiency of their processes improved by the introduction of technology.
When you choose an IT company for software development, you are also choosing more than one provider. In fact, you will be working with a partner who wants to know more about your business needs and requirements, works within a pre-defined budget and is happy when your business achieves its goals. Because that is when the IT service provider partner’s job is (really) done!
